Google buys Youtube for $1.65B (yes that’s a B) in stock. Lesson again is build a subscriber base, rest will follow. One of the important criterion was to shield Youtube from competitors. So, who is next?

Acquisition of YouTube will open floodgates for a number of lawsuits against the company (similar to Napster) for illegal sharing of video content. Till now, nobody was interested in suing a company that doesn’t have much money but with Google acquisition, stakes are high now.

I think you are right, deep pockets do invite law suits. However, if they can continue to strike direct deals with studios and show pro-activeness in deleting illegal content, they should at least be able to ward off some legal threat but clearly more lawyers must be hovering over You Tube now.
