While everyone likes to be seen with a leader, it is hard to ascertain as to what does the involvement mean to each and every player. I asked Nuance – what does the involvement mean for them?

“Today’s news of the Open Handset Alliance is designed to be a starting point for developers, to raise awareness for speech and to inspire them to build new mobile applications and services,” said Richard Mack, Senior Director of Corporate Communications for Nuance. “In particular, Nuance’s contribution to the OHA is providing a basic speech technology component that makes speech available to as many developers and manufacturers as possible, while providing the means to upgrade for advanced services such as mobile voice search, mobile messaging and location-based services”

Nuance’s contribution seem to be more focused in terms of providing the speech component to the stack. Hopefully, the details will start to emerge in the next month or so esp. around the business model.
